Varanasi district has seen the unearthing of a large-scale illegal trade of narcotic syrup. An action by the FSDA revealed that a pharma firm had purchased at least 32,871 bottles (OHMEREX-T syrup 100 ml) through 18 bills between July 15 and October 13, 2025.
During the investigation, it was found that the said firm, Shivansh Pharma, is operated by Shubham Chaurasia, son of Raju Chaurasia, a resident of Reuwa-Chiraigaon, Reuwa area.
The shop was found to be closed for eight months, while the building owner stated that the shop had been rented to Shubham Chaurasia.
The department had issued a notice to present purchase and sale records within 7 days, but no response was received. Following this, an FIR was registered at Chaubepur Police Station, and the police are now engaged in the investigation.
The transaction of such a large quantity of "narcotic" category syrup indicates that it was not limited to medical use but was connected to an illegal network.
Operating an unlicensed shop, purchase and sale without records, and the shop being closed for a long time make this entire case suspicious.
The FSDA and the police are jointly conducting a thorough investigation into the accused firm and its network.
A warning has been issued to the general public to thoroughly check the license and bill when purchasing medicines from medical stores—and to immediately inform the department if there is any suspicion.
