WhatsApp has announced a new Incognito Chat feature for Meta AI users, allowing private and temporary conversations with the AI assistant without saving chat history. The company said the feature is designed to offer additional privacy for users engaging in sensitive conversations.

According to WhatsApp, the new Incognito Chat feature will enable users to hold temporary and private conversations with Meta AI. The company said the option is intended for users seeking AI assistance on subjects related to health, finance, office matters or personal issues without retaining chat records.

Meta said every conversation initiated in this mode will function as a separate session. Once the chat ends, messages will be automatically deleted and previous conversation data will not be used further.

The company said the feature is built on its Private Processing technology. Under this system, AI requests are processed in a secure environment where the content of conversations cannot be directly accessed by Meta or WhatsApp.

Meta stated that user messages will remain encrypted during processing and identity-related information, including IP addresses, will also remain hidden. The company added that no record of the conversation will be stored after the session ends.

WhatsApp said the Incognito Chat feature will be completely optional and will be rolled out gradually on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app over the next few months.

The company also indicated that it is working on a new feature called “Side Chat.” According to WhatsApp, the feature is intended to provide private AI assistance within an existing chat without exposing chat content. The company said the new features are aimed at bringing the same privacy-focused approach used in its end-to-end encryption policy to the AI experience.
