Double-Decker Bus Accident on Agra-Lucknow Expressway in इटावा
A double-decker private bus traveling from Bihar to Delhi crashed on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in इटावा, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred near Milestone 103, under the jurisdiction of the सैफई थाना area. Tragically, two passengers lost their lives, while over 40 individuals were injured, with approximately 10 suffering critical conditions. Following the incident, police and administrative teams swiftly responded to the scene, initiating rescue and relief operations.
How the Accident Occurred?
According to police investigations, preliminary findings indicate that the bus driver fell asleep at the wheel. This caused the bus to lose control, colliding with the expressway’s railing and subsequently overturning. At the time of the accident, the bus was carrying over 70 passengers. The event triggered widespread panic, and local residents immediately rushed to provide assistance.
Identification of the Deceased
Two passengers died on the spot as a result of the accident. The deceased include a woman and a man. The woman, identified as Seeda Khatoon, a resident of Nepal, and the man, identified as 55-year-old Manoj Kumar, a resident of दरभंगा, Bihar, have been confirmed. Police have taken possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.
Treatment for the Injured Continues
All injured passengers have been admitted to the nearby सैफई Medical University. Approximately 10 of the injured are in critical condition and are receiving specialized care in the Emergency Unit. Medical teams are diligently working to provide treatment. Hospital authorities report that many passengers sustained severe injuries, including head trauma, spinal injuries, and fractures to their legs.
Administrative Response
Upon receiving information about the accident, the District Magistrate (DM) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) along with numerous senior officials from इटावा immediately arrived at the scene. They conducted a thorough inspection of the area and assessed the ongoing rescue and relief efforts. Authorities have stated that all injured individuals are receiving immediate and comprehensive assistance, and a detailed investigation into the accident is underway.
The double-decker bus involved in the accident was operated by a private travel agency. While the driver’s drowsiness is believed to be the cause of the incident, police are investigating all possible angles. The investigation will be based on CCTV footage, the driver’s medical records, and statements from passengers.
