In North India, the Shravan month sees special worship, Monday fasts, and a large influx of devotees to Shiva temples.

Beginning of Sawan and Special Festivals

According to the Hindu calendar, July is set to witness numerous auspicious dates and festivals this year. Astrological calculations indicate that the Shravan month will begin on July 11th and continue until August 9th. According to ancient beliefs, worshiping Lord Shiva during the Shravan month brings special blessings and the eradication of all sorrows.

Devshayani Ekadashi

July starts with a very special day. The festival of Devshayani Ekadashi will be celebrated on July 6th. From this day, Lord Vishnu enters a four-month period of yogic sleep, marking the beginning of Chaturmas. The Gauri Vrat will also be observed on this day.

Following this, the Bhaum Pradosh Vrat will occur on July 8th, falling on a Tuesday. On this day, special worship of Lord Shiva is performed, and observing the fast is believed to bring health benefits and freedom from troubles.

Tribute of Devotion on Guru Purnima

On July 10th, the Kokila Vrat and Guru Purnima will be celebrated together. The day of Guru Purnima is dedicated to Gurus. On this day, disciples pay respect to their Gurus and seek their blessings. Special events are held in temples, ashrams, and Gurukuls across the country on this day.

First Monday of Sawan on July 14th

With the start of the Shravan month on July 11th, devotees will immerse themselves in the worship of Lord Shiva. The first Monday of Sawan falls on July 14th. It is considered a special Sankranti from a religious perspective.

Hariyali Teej and the Grandeur of Sawan Shivratri

On this day, devotees stay awake throughout the night and perform the abhishek of the Shivling with bel leaves, water, milk, and Gangajal. On July 24th, the festival of Hariyali Amavasya will be observed, associated with the worship of trees and nature.
