Following the shocking gang rape of a female student at South Law College in Kolkata, a wave of outrage has swept across the state. The heinous crime against the student occurred on the evening of June 25th within the college premises. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has responded bly, forming a four-member investigation committee.
JP Nadda, the party's national president, bly condemned the incident, attributing it to the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal. He stated that the state of women's safety has become deeply concerning and that any form of negligence in such cases will not be tolerated. He also vowed to ensure the strictest possible punishment for the perpetrators.
BJP Team to Visit the Site
The investigation committee comprises former Union Minister Satpal Singh, former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi, Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Deb, and senior advocate and MP Manan Kumar Mishra. The team will soon visit Kolkata to inspect the crime scene, meet with the victim and her family, and engage with administrative officials to prepare its report. This report will be submitted to party president JP Nadda.
A statement issued by the BJP said that the committee will impartially investigate all aspects of the case to ensure justice for the victim and prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
Four Accused Arrested So Far
The police have arrested four individuals in connection with the case. These include two current students of the college, a former student, and a security guard stationed at the college. The police arrested the guard on Saturday because his statements during interrogation were inconsistent, and his suspicious activities were revealed in the CCTV footage.
According to the police, the guard was on duty at the time of the incident but neglected his responsibilities. The police are also investigating whether he was on duty alone or if others were involved in the crime.
Questions Raised About Women's Safety
This incident comes at a time when a serious incident involving a female student at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College had recently shaken the state. This new incident at the law college has once again raised questions about the safety of women in the state. Local residents and social organizations are demanding immediate action and severe punishment in this case.
