WTC 2025-27 Points Table: In the second cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27, Sri Lanka has made a significant jump in the points table by securing a spectacular victory against Bangladesh. In the final match of the two-Test series played in Colombo, Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 78 runs, winning the series 1-0. This victory was a confidence booster for Sri Lanka, as the team was unable to defeat Bangladesh in the first Test, and the match ended in a draw. However, in the Colombo Test, they delivered a brilliant performance in every department, handing a one-sided defeat to the opposing team.
Sri Lanka's Historic Victory
Talking about the second Test match, Sri Lanka scored a massive 458 runs after batting first. This included a century by Pathum Nissanka and half-centuries from Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva. Bangladesh's bowling looked weak, though Taijul Islam did show some fight by taking five wickets.
After this, Bangladesh's first innings was bundled out for 247 runs. Sri Lanka gave them a follow-on, and in the second innings, Prabath Jayasuriya's lethal bowling forced Bangladesh to surrender. Jayasuriya took 5 wickets in the second innings, and Bangladesh could only manage 133 runs. Thus, Sri Lanka won the match by an innings and 78 runs, and clinched the series.
Picture of the Points Table
With this victory of Sri Lanka, there has been a stir in the World Test Championship points table. Now, Sri Lanka has 66.67% points and is in third place. On the other hand, Australia has played only one match so far and, after defeating the West Indies in that match, is at the top with a 100% win. England also won their only match against India and their win percentage is also 100%, but Australia remains at number one due to the net run rate and extra points.
Talking about Team India, they had to face defeat at the hands of England in their first Test match. Therefore, India's PCT is currently 0% and they are in fifth place. India will play their next match against England at Edgbaston from July 2, where they will have to register a win at all costs to strengthen themselves in the WTC points table.
Double Blow to Bangladesh
This series was quite disappointing for Bangladesh. In the first match, they earned 4 points from the draw and remained in fourth place with a win percentage of 16.67%, but the innings defeat in the Colombo Test and the resignation of captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, both have dealt a big blow to the team. Shanto had created history by scoring centuries in both innings of the Galle Test, but after the failure in the second Test, he resigned from the captaincy.
