An encounter between terrorists and security forces has been ongoing since Thursday morning. In this operation, launched under 'Operation Bihali', security forces have killed one terrorist, who is said to be the head of the terrorist group. Three other terrorists are still cornered. A joint team of the army and Jammu and Kashmir Police has cordoned off the entire area and a search operation is underway.
Operation Bihali: How the Encounter Began
According to sources, security forces received intelligence about the presence of Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists in the dense forests of Basantgarh. Following this, on Thursday morning, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Around 8:30 AM, the terrorists and security forces confronted each other, after which the encounter began. The terrorists are continuously firing, while the security forces have taken up positions.
Members of Terrorist Organization Jaish-e-Mohammed Involved
The terrorists involved in the ongoing encounter are believed to be linked to the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed. They possess advanced weapons like M-4 carbines. The slain terrorist is being identified, but initial information suggests he was the leader of the group. Security forces are now putting pressure from all directions to capture or eliminate the other three terrorists.
Significant Success Before Amarnath Yatra
The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 3rd. In this context, this operation in Udhampur is considered a major success. The government is serious about security preparations for the Yatra, and accordingly, such operations are being carried out rapidly.
