Gaurav Gogoi urged PM Modi to order an independent inquiry into the arrest of journalist Dilwar Hussain in Assam, and appealed for an investigation into alleged police misconduct.
Assam: The arrest of senior journalist Dilwar Hussain Mazumdar in Assam has sparked controversy. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding immediate intervention. Gogoi alleged in his letter that the journalist's arrest stemmed from his reporting on an alleged financial scam in the Assam Co-operative Apex Bank Limited.
Alleged Police Misconduct in Journalist's Arrest
Gaurav Gogoi appealed to the Prime Minister for an independent inquiry into the matter, stating that the police acted deliberately against the journalist. He wrote that the arrest was made without just cause and was an attempt to silence the journalist. Gogoi demanded an investigation into the police's arbitrary actions to protect press freedom.
Gogoi Appeals for Independent Inquiry into Financial Scam
In his letter, Gaurav Gogoi also demanded an investigation into the alleged financial irregularities in the Assam Co-operative Apex Bank Limited. He stated that questions are also being raised about the role of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP MLA Bishnujit Fukon. Gogoi added that the larger questions relate to the country's democracy, transparency in financial institutions, and the violation of constitutional rights.
Appeal for Swift Intervention from PM Modi
Gogoi stated that PM Modi's intervention is necessary in this matter to protect democracy and citizens' rights. He wrote that such incidents can erode public trust and that immediate action is necessary to ensure justice.
