New Delhi: The BJP legislature party meeting to discuss government formation in Delhi is scheduled for the evening of February 19th. Sources indicate that this meeting, initially planned for Monday, was postponed. The meeting will announce the names of the observers, and the leader of the legislature party will be chosen on Wednesday.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new government could take place on February 20th, possibly at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan. Whoever is elected leader of the legislature party will become the next Chief Minister of Delhi. However, there is still no clarity on who will assume the responsibility of Chief Minister.
Contenders for the CM Post?
The BJP achieved a resounding victory in the Assembly elections held on February 5th, returning to power in Delhi after 27 years. The BJP won 48 out of Delhi's 70 Assembly seats, ending the 10-year rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Several newly elected MLAs are being discussed for the Chief Minister's post. Leading contenders for the top position include Pravesh Verma, former Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta, and Satish Upadhyay. Pravesh Verma defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the Assembly elections and hails from the Jat community, making him a b contender for the Chief Minister's post.
Other leaders such as Pawan Sharma, Ashish Sood, Rekha Gupta, and Shikha Rai are also being considered as potential Chief Ministerial candidates. Some within the party believe the BJP leadership might choose a newly elected MLA for the Chief Minister's position, mirroring the selections made in states like Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.
