Maha Kumbh 2025: Record-Breaking 550 Million Devotees Take Holy Dip
Last Updated: 2 day ago

The number of devotees participating in Maha Kumbh 2025 has set a new record. Over 50 crore (500 million) devotees have so far taken a holy dip in the sacred Triveni Sangam.

Prayagraj: Over 55 crore (550 million) devotees have taken a holy dip in Maha Kumbh 2025, making it the largest religious, cultural, and social gathering in world history. This number is expected to exceed 60 crore (600 million) by Maha Shivaratri (February 26th). Compared to India's total population (approximately 143 crore (1.43 billion) according to World Population Review and Pew Research), nearly 38% of Indians have participated in this event. Considering only the Hindu population (approximately 110 crore (1.1 billion)), over 50% of Hindu devotees have performed the sacred bath at the Triveni Sangam.

Maha Kumbh 2025: Devotee Numbers Break Records

The number of sadhus, devotees, and householders taking a dip in the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the unseen Saraswati rivers has surpassed even the expectations expressed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath before the Maha Kumbh. CM Yogi had earlier predicted that this grand and divine Maha Kumbh would set a new record for the number of bathers. He initially estimated the arrival of 45 crore (450 million) devotees, a figure that proved accurate by February 11th.

On February 14th, the number crossed 50 crore (500 million), and has now reached a new peak of 55 crore (550 million). Nine days remain until the Maha Kumbh concludes, and an important bathing festival, Maha Shivaratri, is still to come, making it highly likely that the number will exceed 60 crore (600 million). The highest number of devotees to participate in a single mass bath was approximately 8 crore (80 million) on Mauni Amavasya, while 3.5 crore (35 million) took a holy dip on Makar Sankranti.

Furthermore, over 2 crore (20 million) devotees each took a holy dip in the Sangam on January 30th and February 1st, while 1.7 crore (17 million) devotees attended the bath on Paush Purnima.
