The Uttar Pradesh government aims to leverage the US-China tariff war to boost its MSME sector. A new export policy, branding initiatives, and skill development programs target a threefold increase in exports by 2030.
UP News: The Uttar Pradesh government views the ongoing US-China tariff war as a significant opportunity. It believes that by capitalizing on this conflict, it can foster growth in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, leading to a substantial increase in the state's exports. The goal is to triple Uttar Pradesh's exports by 2030.
Opportunities for Uttar Pradesh
The tariff conflict between the US and China has prompted many nations to seek new trade opportunities. The Uttar Pradesh government plans to fully utilize this opening. The state's b law and order, robust infrastructure (including expressways, international airports, and waterways), and emphasis on MSME growth present significant advantages over other states.
Revised Export Policy and MSME Promotion
The Uttar Pradesh government will soon introduce a new export policy. This policy will include significant measures to establish the state's products as global brands. An international trade show will be held at the India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida from September 25th to 27th, 2025, with Vietnam as the partner country. This event will showcase Uttar Pradesh's products to traders and customers from 70 countries, including India.
Promoting the "Brand Uttar Pradesh"
The state government is exploring new ways to promote the "Brand Uttar Pradesh" domestically and internationally. Extensive promotion of the state's products will be undertaken in major cities and airports such as Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Indore. An export promotion fund will also be established to further boost exports.
Special Focus on Leather and Footwear Sector
Uttar Pradesh is a leading state in India's leather and footwear exports, contributing 46% to the national total. To further enhance this sector, the government will introduce a dedicated leather and footwear policy. The aim is to strengthen these industries, particularly in Kanpur, Unnao, and Agra, where they are heavily concentrated.
A Golden Opportunity for the MSME Sector
China exports $148 billion worth of goods to the US annually, with India's share being a mere 2%. India now stands to gain significantly more export opportunities compared to China. Uttar Pradesh has 9.6 million MSME units that can directly benefit from this tariff war. The state government has implemented skill development programs to improve the quality and competitiveness of these units to enable them to compete in the international market.
Increased Exports through the ODiOP (One District One Product) Scheme
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has praised the "One District One Product" scheme, highlighting its contribution to increasing the state's exports from ₹88,967 crore to over ₹2 lakh crore. The government now aims to triple these exports by 2030.
