Enhanced Security Measures Implemented at Vaishno Devi Shrine Following Pulwama Attack. Shrine Board Implements Strict Measures Including AI Cameras, ICCC Center, and Digital Verification.

Mata Vaishno Devi: Following the Pulwama terrorist attack, security measures have been heightened across Jammu and Kashmir. Consequently, several significant steps have been taken to enhance the safety and security of pilgrims at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan in Katra.

High-Level Security Meeting Convened by Shrine Board

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board held a high-level security review meeting in Katra on Friday. The meeting was chaired by the Shrine Board's Chief Executive Officer, Anshul Garg. Senior officials from security agencies, the army, intelligence agencies, and the administration were present.

Command and Control Center to be Operational in Katra by May

The meeting decided that an Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) will be established in Katra by the first week of May to further strengthen pilgrim security. This center will provide technical support for immediate response during emergencies.

Utilization of Advanced Technology, Including AI-Based Surveillance Systems

The Shrine Board stated that AI-powered gesture and face recognition cameras will be used to enhance the security of the Bhawan area. A network of over 700 CCTV cameras will be installed to enable immediate monitoring of suspicious activities.

Verification of Porters and Ponywallas for Identity Confirmation

The meeting also decided to verify the identities of porters (pittus) and ponywallas (those who provide pony services) serving at the Bhawan to mitigate the risk of impersonation. Only certified service providers will be granted access to the shrine.

Other Security Measures to be Implemented

Modern technologies such as drone surveillance, deployment of additional security forces, metal detectors, under-vehicle mirrors, X-ray baggage scanners, and geo-fencing are also being incorporated to ensure pilgrim safety.
