The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has lifted the suspension imposed on the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), bringing significant relief to the organization. This decision is expected to resolve the long-standing disputes surrounding the federation.

Sports News: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has received a major reprieve with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports lifting its suspension with immediate effect. The suspension, imposed due to prolonged internal disputes within the WFI over the past few years, had created uncertainty surrounding Indian wrestling. This MYAS decision is expected to remove obstacles hindering the federation's operations. Indian wrestlers can now participate in international tournaments without hindrance, potentially leading to a renewed direction for the sport in the country.

Reasons for the Suspension?

The suspension of the WFI stemmed from allegations of violating the sports code. The executive committee, headed by Sanjay Singh, was accused of operating against regulations, prompting the MYAS to suspend the federation. Additionally, the United World Wrestling (UWW) also suspended the WFI last year. However, the UWW and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) subsequently provided relief, deciding to dissolve the ad-hoc committee.

What Next?

Following the MYAS's decision, the WFI has been fully reinstated. Experts believe this decision will be crucial for the future of Indian wrestling, strengthening the participation of Indian wrestlers in national and international tournaments. While WFI executive committee president Sanjay Singh had already received relief from the UWW and IOA, approval from the central government was pending, which has now been granted.

Although the WFI has been relieved of the suspension, it remains to be seen whether future irregularities will arise within the federation's operations. The MYAS has made it clear that stringent action will be taken if any future irregularities are detected. With this decision, the Wrestling Federation of India is fully reinstated.
