Heavy snowfall and rain intensify cold in Uttarakhand, blocking several roads. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for more snowfall and light rain today; light drizzle in Haldwani brought a chill to the air.

Weather Update: Uttarakhand's weather has taken a turn, making conditions difficult in the mountainous regions. Heavy snowfall has occurred in several high-altitude areas, including the Char Dham pilgrimage sites, blocking several crucial routes such as the Gangotri and Badrinath highways. Lower regions also experienced heavy rain, leading to a temperature drop and increased cold.

Rain in lower regions as well

Sunday saw inclement weather across most parts of the state. Haldwani experienced drizzle and cold winds, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperature. Meanwhile, continuous snowfall in mountainous areas has affected several villages.

Roads blocked in areas bordering China

Heavy snowfall has also been reported in the high-altitude regions of Kumaon. Roadways have been disrupted in areas bordering China, causing hardship for villagers. Electricity and water supplies have been affected, and shortages of essential goods are beginning to emerge. According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall in the mountains may continue.

Meteorological Department issues yellow alert

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy snowfall on the peaks. Light rain is also expected in the lower regions. Temperatures are expected to remain below normal, leading to a more intense cold spell.

Niti-Malari Highway blocked by snowfall

Heavy snowfall occurred in high-altitude areas of Chamoli district, including Auli, Badrinath, and Hemkund, blocking several routes, including the Niti-Malari Highway. This has cut off contact with more than 12 villages. The Gangotri route is also blocked near Sukki Top, making travel difficult.

Snowfall on Kedarnath and other peaks

Heavy snowfall has also been reported on major peaks such as Kedarnath, Madmaheshwar, Tungnath, Kartik Swami, and Chandrashila. In Pithoragarh district, the Munsyari-Dhapa-Milam route has been blocked due to landslides. Heavy snowfall from Chiyalek to Lipulekh on the Tawaghat-Lipulekh route has made travel in the area risky.
