In a thrilling encounter at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans registered a resounding 7-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals. Delhi Capitals, batting first, had posted a b total of 203 runs.

Sports News: In a memorable IPL 2025 match, Gujarat Titans not only secured a significant victory over Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets but also created history. This was the first time Delhi Capitals failed to defend a score of over 200 runs in an IPL match.

In this exciting match played at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat chased down the formidable target of 204 runs thanks to Jos Buttler's unbeaten 97.

Delhi's Explosive Start

Delhi Capitals, winning the toss, opted to bat first and their batsmen made the most of the decision. Delhi made a quick start in the powerplay, adding 60 runs. Prithvi Shaw and David Warner targeted Gujarat's bowlers in the opening overs.

Shaw played an aggressive innings of 48 runs off 29 balls, while Warner contributed 35. The middle order, featuring Riley Russo and captain Rishabh Pant, maintained the momentum. Pant, in particular, played an explosive innings in the final overs, smashing 44 runs off just 20 balls, taking Delhi's score to 203/5.

Buttler and Rutherford's Stellar Partnership

Chasing 204 runs is never easy, especially against a bowling unit featuring the likes of Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, and Enrich Norchia. Gujarat's start was also unspectacular. Captain Shubman Gill returned to the pavilion after scoring only 5 runs, putting the team under pressure.

Sai Sudarshan steadied the ship with a composed 36-run innings, momentarily taking the lead in the Orange Cap race. However, his dismissal at 74 runs was a significant blow for Gujarat. Gujarat still needed 130 runs for victory, and the match seemed to swing in Delhi's favour.

Then came Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford to the crease. Buttler immediately displayed his intent, smashing shots to all parts of the ground – cover drives, pull shots, and scoops – leaving Delhi's bowlers helpless. Rutherford also supported Buttler well, scoring 43 runs before being dismissed.

This partnership turned the match around. Buttler, in particular, was in a league of his own. His unbeaten 97-run innings came off 52 balls, including 9 fours and 5 sixes. Buttler's confidence was evident in every shot.

The Thrilling Final Over and Tewatia's Magic

Gujarat needed 10 runs off the final over, bowled by Mitchell Starc – the same bowler who had led Delhi to victory in a super over in the previous match. But this time, the story was different. Rahul Tewatia hit a six off the first ball and a four off the second, sealing the victory. Tewatia's small but decisive 13-run cameo off 6 balls secured the win. Buttler remained unbeaten on 97, narrowly missing a century, but his team secured a historic victory.
