Sports News: England's veteran all-rounder Josh Cobb has announced his retirement from professional cricket. The 34-year-old Cobb, who scored 13,152 runs and took 133 wickets in 448 matches throughout his career, will now assume the role of Head of the Boys' Academy at Warwickshire County Cricket Club. This decision, made just three days before the start of IPL 2025, has sent ripples through the cricketing world.

A Glimpse of a Stellar Career

Making his debut for Leicestershire at the age of 17 in 2007, Josh Cobb delivered many memorable performances during his 18-year career. In 2008, he captivated audiences with an unbeaten 148 against Middlesex at Lord's, becoming the youngest player to score a century for Leicestershire.

Cobb also played for Northamptonshire and Worcestershire in English county cricket. He was twice named ‘Player of the Match’ in the T20 Blast final, and under his captaincy, Welsh Fire showcased impressive performances in The Hundred.

Expert in Big Matches

In 2013, Cobb became a champion with the Dhaka Gladiators in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He is the only player in the history of the T20 Blast to win the ‘Player of the Match’ award twice in the final.
The first time, he earned this honor due to his exceptional bowling performance.
The second time, in 2016, he scored 80 runs off 48 balls, leading Northamptonshire to their second T20 Blast championship.

Cobb's Statement on Retirement

Announcing his retirement, Cobb stated, "Cricket has been a significant part of my life, and this journey has had its ups and downs. Scoring a century at Lord's and winning the T20 Blast twice are among the most memorable moments of my career. I am grateful to my family, teammates, and supporters who have always been there for me. Now, I will focus on developing young players at Warwickshire."

Cobb has already shown an interest in coaching. Last year, he worked with the Australian team as a consultant coach for two weeks during the England-Australia ODI series. Now, he will play his part in nurturing Warwickshire's young talent.
