Entertainment: Vicky Kaushal's historical blockbuster, "Chhawa," has taken the box office by storm, grossing over ₹574 crore in India. However, amidst its immense success, a major problem has arisen. The makers of "Chhawa" have had to seek the help of cyber police due to widespread piracy of the film.

Film Makers Approach Police

According to media reports, the film "Chhawa" has been leaked online via more than 1,818 unauthorized links. The situation became so serious that Rajat Rahul Haska, CEO of production house August Entertainment, had to file an official complaint with the Mumbai Cyber Police. Based on this complaint, the Mumbai Cyber Cell has registered a case under sections 316(2) and 308(3) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), sections 51, 63, and 65A of the Copyright Act, section 6AA of the Cinematograph Act 1952, and sections 43 and 66 of the IT Act. The police are now investigating the matter to crack down on the piracy network.

Impact on Earnings? Makers' Growing Concern

Piracy can directly affect the film's box office collection. It has been observed that when films are leaked online, there is a significant drop in the number of viewers going to theaters. However, "Chhawa" is receiving tremendous audience support, and its earnings continue despite this.

Starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, the film was released on February 14, 2025, with Akshay Khanna playing the villain. Grossing ₹31 crore on its opening day, the film indicated a superhit status. It crossed ₹219 crore in its first weekend and has now earned over ₹574 crore in India.

Vicky Kaushal's Powerful Portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj

In the film, Vicky Kaushal plays Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a role that has been incredibly well-received by the audience. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film has received an overwhelming response and is Vicky Kaushal's biggest hit to date. The major question now is whether the makers will be able to completely curb this piracy. However, action against the culprits is expected following the cyber police investigation. Until these cases are completely resolved, however, it will remain a cause for concern for the filmmakers.
