A horrific road accident occurred in Batala, Gurdaspur district, Punjab, on Wednesday night, resulting in the immediate death of three individuals and serious injuries to six others.

Batala: A devastating road accident took place in Batala, Gurdaspur district, Punjab, on Wednesday night, claiming the lives of three people and leaving six critically injured. The accident occurred when bales of straw loaded onto a trolley suddenly fell, causing a car to lose control and collide with another vehicle.

How did the accident happen?

According to reports, a tractor-trolley carrying bales of straw was ascending a road from a dump. The bales unexpectedly fell onto a car approaching from Batala. This caused the car to veer uncontrollably and collide with another car coming from the Kadian side. The impact severely damaged both cars, resulting in the deaths of three individuals.

The deceased have been identified as Surjit Singh (village Panjgraiyan), Rajesh (village Mishra Pura) – who were in-laws – and Karn Kumar (village Gohta). The accident was particularly devastating for Surjit Singh's family; he had returned from the USA after 17 years and was scheduled to return on Thursday. Fate, however, had other plans.

Six Injured, Two in Critical Condition

The six injured individuals have been identified as Sarwan Kumar, Gurpreet Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Suresh Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, and Sarwan Lal. Two of the injured are in critical condition and have been referred to Amritsar. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. DSP Hari Krishna stated that the role of the tractor-trolley driver is also being investigated. Both cars involved in the accident have been seized by the police, and legal proceedings are underway.
