Dense fog disrupts train and flight schedules in Delhi
Dense fog blanketed the Delhi-NCR region on Friday, significantly impacting train and flight schedules. According to the Indian Railways, 26 trains bound for Delhi were delayed due to the fog. Over 100 flights at Delhi Airport were also affected.
Zero visibility on highways
The dense fog reduced visibility on highways to near zero, forcing drivers to proceed with their lights on. This caused considerable inconvenience to commuters heading to work.
Dial and Indigo issue advisories
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) posted on X (formerly Twitter) at 5:52 AM, "Foggy conditions are impacting flight departures. However, flights compliant with CAT III procedures are able to operate at Delhi Airport."
Indigo advised passengers on X at 5:04 AM to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
Role of CAT III system
The CAT III system allows the operation of flights in low visibility conditions. It enabled some flights to land and depart safely, but the fog significantly affected the majority of flights, causing inconvenience for passengers.
DIAL appeals to passengers
DIAL urged passengers to contact the respective airlines for updated information and expressed regret for the inconvenience. They stated that both air and road traffic were affected by the fog.
1,300 daily flights at IGI Airport
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) handles approximately 1,300 flights daily. However, on Friday, the fog significantly impacted flight services. According to Flightradar.com, over 100 flights experienced delays.
Indigo advises passengers
Indigo advised passengers, "We recommend planning extra time for travel to the airport as visibility is reduced and traffic is slower due to the fog in Delhi."
