In a significant organizational reshuffle ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress party has appointed Rajesh Kumar, a Dalit leader and MLA from Kutumba in Aurangabad, as the new president of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee.

Patna: Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, expected in October-November, the Congress party has undertaken a major organizational overhaul. The party appointed Rajesh Kumar, a Dalit leader and MLA from Kutumba in Aurangabad, as the new president of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee. This change comes as the party is recalibrating its strategic equations in the state.

Major Change in Bihar Congress

Rajesh Kumar succeeds former state president and Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh. The Congress high command made this decision to strengthen the organization and inject new energy into its campaign for the upcoming elections. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced the appointment, which is seen as a strategy to bolster the party's Dalit and backward class vote bank.

By appointing Rajesh Kumar, Congress has signaled its intention to rebuild its organization in Bihar, keeping caste equations in mind. Previously, the Congress faced accusations of being the "B team" of the RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal). However, with the new leadership, the party is attempting to establish its independent identity. Congress is now focusing on expanding its base in the state through issues such as "Save the Constitution" and the caste census.

Shift in Political Strategy

This change in the Bihar Congress comes after Krishna Allavaru's recent appointment as the state AICC in-charge. Since his arrival, Congress has adopted a more aggressive strategy, indicating plans to move forward independently rather than solely relying on coalition partners.

While currently allied with the RJD in Bihar, the new strategy suggests the Congress is exploring the possibility of contesting elections independently. NDA leaders are also observing this new stance by Congress, and it is believed that if the RJD attempts to maintain its dominance within the alliance, Congress may adopt an independent strategy.
