Medha Patkar: Delhi Police has arrested social activist Medha Patkar. Saket Court issued a non-bailable warrant against her on Wednesday. Patkar will be presented before the Saket Court today.

What is the case about?

This is a 23-year-old case where Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, V.K. Saxena, filed charges against Medha Patkar when she was heading an NGO in Gujarat. Additional Sessions Judge Vishal Singh found Patkar guilty of defamation. On April 8th, the court ordered Patkar's release on probation of good conduct, along with a fine of one lakh rupees.

Non-compliance with court orders

Patkar was listed to appear in court on April 23rd to deposit the fine and probation bond, but she neither appeared nor complied with the court's orders.

Subsequently, a non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against her through the Delhi Police Commissioner.

Next hearing date

Gajinder Kumar, V.K. Saxena's lawyer, stated that if Patkar does not comply with the court orders by May 3rd, the court may consider altering the sentence imposed on her.
