Trump's envoy, General Kellogg, proposed a partition of Ukraine based on a German model, with the Dnipro River potentially forming the new border, to halt the Russia-Ukraine war.

Ukraine Crisis: Former US President Donald Trump's special envoy, General Keith Kellogg, has presented a peace plan for the Russia-Ukraine war that has stirred global politics. He suggested that, in the event of a peace agreement, Ukraine could be partitioned similarly to post-World War II Germany. Under this plan, the western part of Ukraine could be under the control of NATO allies like Britain and France, while the eastern part would remain under Russia's control.

Dnipro River to become new border, creating an 18-mile-wide DMZ

According to General Kellogg, the Dnipro River would become a natural border. French and UK troops would be stationed west of it. An 18-mile-wide "Demilitarized Zone" (DMZ) would be established between Russia and Ukraine, facilitating monitoring and helping prevent future conflict. The Ukrainian Army would be stationed behind the DMZ.

US will not deploy troops

General Kellogg clarified that the US would not deploy troops to Ukraine under this plan. He cited post-Berlin Wall Germany as an example, stating, "Just as Berlin was divided into four parts after WWII, Ukraine could also be temporarily divided for the sake of peace."

Russia's objection is certain

However, implementing this proposal on the ground will not be easy. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has already stated that the Kremlin does not want to see NATO peacekeeping forces deployed in Ukraine under any circumstances. Therefore, Moscow may consider the DMZ or the deployment of Western forces a "major provocation."

Questions raised about Ukraine's sovereignty

This proposal has also increased tensions in Europe. Many geopolitical analysts believe it could threaten Ukraine's territorial integrity. Kellogg later stated on X (formerly Twitter) that his plan is not to divide Ukraine but rather to propose a practical ceasefire solution that aligns with the ground reality.
