The New Zealand cricket team has suffered a significant blow ahead of their upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan. Regular captain Tom Latham has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to injury. Henry Nicholls has been called up to the squad as a replacement.

Sports News: Following the T20 series between Pakistan and New Zealand, an ODI series is scheduled to commence on March 29th. However, New Zealand has received a major setback before the series even begins, as captain Tom Latham has been ruled out due to injury. Henry Nicholls has been added to the squad in his absence, while Michael Bracewell has been appointed captain. Bracewell also led the team during the T20 series against Pakistan.

Tom Latham Suffers Hand Fracture, Ruled Out for Four Weeks

Tom Latham was struck by a ball during net practice, and subsequent X-rays revealed a fracture in his hand. This injury will require at least four weeks of rest. New Zealand coach Gary Stead stated that while they hope for a speedy recovery for Latham, he has been ruled out of the ODI series.

Henry Nicholls Receives Opportunity

Latham's absence has paved the way for Henry Nicholls' return to the team. Nicholls was sidelined last year due to a shin injury, but his impressive performance in domestic cricket has earned him a recall to the national team. In his 78 ODIs, he has scored 2116 runs, including one century and 15 half-centuries.

Will Young Also Out for Two Matches

Furthermore, New Zealand opening batsman Will Young will miss the second and third ODIs due to personal reasons. He will be absent due to the birth of his first child. Replacing him is 23-year-old rising batsman, Rachin Ravindra, who receives his first call-up to the New Zealand ODI team. Coach Gary Stead commented that with several players unavailable due to injury or personal reasons, it presents opportunities for others to showcase their talent.

He stated, "Tom Latham's absence is disappointing, but Michael Bracewell showed b leadership in the T20 series, and we are confident in his performance in the ODIs. Also, we wish Will Young all the best in enjoying this special moment with his family."
