The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has embarked on another historic mission. The Indian government has greenlit the Chandrayaan-5 mission, which will conduct a detailed study of the lunar surface.

Bengaluru: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has taken another step towards a historic mission. The Indian government has approved the Chandrayaan-5 mission, which will conduct a comprehensive study of the lunar surface. This mission will deploy a 250-kilogram rover to the moon, which will thoroughly investigate the lunar terrain, mineral composition, and surface features.

Chandrayaan-4 Launch in 2027

ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan confirmed the mission at an event in Bengaluru. He stated that the government approved the mission three days prior. Japan will collaborate with India on this mission to enhance its effectiveness. Previously, India planned to launch the Chandrayaan-4 mission in 2027. The primary objective of this mission is to collect soil and rock samples from the moon for study on Earth. This mission will assist scientists in understanding the moon's origin and surface structure.

Chandrayaan Missions: India's Impressive Journey

India launched Chandrayaan-1 in 2008, which discovered evidence of water on the lunar surface. Chandrayaan-2 followed in 2019, although its lander did not successfully land on the lunar surface. Then, in 2023, Chandrayaan-3 achieved a historic landing on the Moon's south pole, making India the first nation to do so.

India also plans to launch its first human space mission, Gaganyaan, in 2028. Indian astronauts will conduct experiments in low Earth orbit during this mission. This mission will pave the way for future human missions to the moon and Mars.
