The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, has terminated its alliance with the party led by Humayun Kabir with immediate effect ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. The party announced that it will now contest the elections independently in the state.
The decision comes at a time when political parties in West Bengal are finalising their strategies and electoral alignments are undergoing rapid changes ahead of the विधानसभा elections.
AIMIM, in its official statement, said it will contest the West Bengal Assembly elections independently. The party stated that the decision to end the alliance was taken in light of recent developments and statements made by Humayun Kabir, which, according to the organisation, raised concerns regarding communal unity and political clarity.
The party further stated that its objective is not to divide any community but to raise issues that are often overlooked in mainstream politics.
AIMIM also expressed concern over the socio-economic condition of the Muslim community in West Bengal. The party stated that despite decades of governance by various political parties in the name of secularism, the Muslim community continues to remain backward and deprived in several areas.
According to the party, Muslims in the state have not received adequate participation in education, employment, and development opportunities, resulting in their continued marginalisation. AIMIM stated that it aims to emerge as an alternative political voice to address these concerns.
The development centres around Humayun Kabir, whose party was in alliance with AIMIM. Following the termination of the alliance, political debate in the state has intensified. Meanwhile, leaders of the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) have levelled allegations against Humayun Kabir. Citing a video circulated on social media, TMC leaders claimed that Kabir has alleged covert links with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
TMC leaders stated that the video could be part of a planned political strategy aimed at weakening Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
