Retired DSP Opens Fire on Family in Amritsar, Son Dead, Wife and Daughter-in-Law Injured

A shocking incident unfolded in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, on Friday, sending shockwaves through the entire area. Tarsem Singh, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), opened fire on his own family over a property dispute. In the shooting, his 40-year-old son died on the spot, while his wife and daughter-in-law were seriously injured. The incident took place at Tarsem Singh's residence, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Majitha Road police station.

Upon hearing the gunshots, neighbors were startled and immediately alerted the police. Responding swiftly to the information, a police team stationed at the Majitha Road check post apprehended the accused at the scene. The police also seized a licensed firearm from his possession, which was used in the crime. The accused was taken into custody without any resistance and is being interrogated at the police station.

Tension Arising from Two Marriages

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rishabh Bhola revealed that the accused, Tarsem Singh, had been married twice and had been in a long-standing dispute with his first wife regarding property. This familial tension escalated on Friday when the accused, in a fit of rage, opened fire on his first wife, son, and daughter-in-law. The son collapsed at the scene and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while the wife and daughter-in-law remain in critical condition.

Treatment Underway at the Hospital

The injured were immediately taken to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, where doctors admitted the son in critical condition, but he died during treatment. The wife and daughter-in-law are also in a precarious condition and are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The police have registered a case against Tarsem Singh under charges of murder, attempted murder, and the Arms Act.

According to ACP Rishabh Bhola, the police are thoroughly investigating every aspect of the incident. They are not only gathering information related to the license of the weapon used in the crime but are also examining his mental state and family background. Moreover, statements from other family members are being recorded. Following the incident, a tense atmosphere prevails in the Majitha Road area, and people are shocked that a retired officer, who once served the law, committed such a horrific act.
