Apple introduced Lockdown Mode in 2022 as a high-level security feature for iPhone, iPad and Mac users to protect devices from cyber attacks by blocking suspicious activity.
Lockdown Mode is a high-level security feature launched by Apple in 2022 for iPhone, iPad and Mac devices. It is specifically designed for users who face a higher risk of cyber attacks, including journalists, social activists and public figures.
Amid increasing online fraud and spyware attacks, the feature is also being adopted by general users. It prioritises device security and introduces multiple system-level changes to protect against potential threats.

When Lockdown Mode is activated, several iPhone features become restricted. Suspicious message attachments are automatically blocked, and some websites may not load fully, reducing potential entry points for malware.
Calls, FaceTime requests and invitations from unknown numbers are also blocked. This additional security layer makes it significantly more difficult for hackers to access the device, even if it limits certain functionalities.
To activate the feature, users need to open Settings and navigate to the Privacy & Security section, where the Lockdown Mode option is available.
By selecting Turn On Lockdown Mode and choosing Turn On & Restart, the device will restart after entering the passcode, and the feature will be activated. Once enabled, the device automatically applies additional security protocols.
