Arvind Kejriwal, National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is preparing to lead a march to the Prime Minister's residence on Tuesday in protest against the Centre's E20 fuel policy. According to the party, Kejriwal will begin the march from the party headquarters at 12 noon with around 100 supporters and attempt to submit a petition signed by 233,238 people to the Prime Minister.
AAP said the petition reflects concerns raised by citizens across the country regarding E20 petrol. The party stated that the primary objective of the campaign is to convey public opinion on issues related to the use of E20 fuel to the government. As of the time of writing, there was no confirmation from the Delhi Police that permission for the march had been granted.
During a press conference, Kejriwal said complaints regarding the E20 fuel policy had emerged from different parts of the country. He alleged that many vehicle owners believe the use of E20 petrol has affected fuel efficiency and that technical issues have also been reported in some cases.
AAP said the government should hold a broader public discussion on the potential impact of the policy and address citizens' concerns. The party has sought greater transparency regarding the technical and economic aspects of E20 fuel so that consumers receive clear information.
The Central Government and various expert institutions have stated that the objective of ethanol-blended fuel is to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, lower expenditure on imported crude oil, and advance environmental goals. E20 petrol consists of a blend of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol.
AAP also claimed that a recently held town hall programme opposing the E20 policy drew a large number of participants. According to the party, the venue witnessed a significant turnout both inside and outside, while the event was also viewed by millions on digital platforms. Kejriwal said discussion on the issue is increasing among vehicle users and the general public.
He further alleged that some individuals raising their voices against the E20 policy on social media had faced trolling and other forms of pressure. However, these allegations could not be independently verified.
According to AAP, an online petition addressed to the Prime Minister was launched a few days ago. The party claimed the campaign received broad public support, with 233,238 people signing the petition within a few days. Kejriwal said he had sought an appointment with the Prime Minister about a month ago to discuss citizens' concerns regarding E20 petrol directly. The party said it would now attempt to deliver the petition in person at the Prime Minister's residence.
