Atishi Accuses BJP of Troubling Delhi's Middle Class with Vehicle Restrictions and Pension Cuts

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi has once again targeted the BJP government, bly raising issues concerning Delhi's middle class. Atishi stated that the BJP government has left no opportunity in the past 6 months to trouble the common people of Delhi, especially the middle class.

New Delhi: Political tensions have escalated regarding the restrictions on old vehicles in Delhi. Senior AAP leader and Delhi government minister Atishi Marlena has once again criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She said that the BJP government has spared no effort in troubling the middle class — first with electricity, then water, and now with a 'Tughlaqi decree' regarding vehicles.

Allegations of 'Fraud' on the Vehicle Issue

Atishi said in a press conference that the BJP made the decision to ban 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol/CNG vehicles without proper consideration. The actual condition of the vehicles was ignored. She claimed that when the public protested, the Delhi BJP wrote a letter to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) — which, according to her, was "a fraud." Now the BJP is saying they will go to the Supreme Court, but they already know that the case will be dismissed there, and then they will say, “it was the court's order."

Demand: Bring a Law, the Opposition will Cooperate

Atishi has demanded that the BJP bring a clear law or ordinance on this issue to provide relief to the public. She said that if the BJP brings a law on this, the opposition will also cooperate, but this false promise and drama should stop. She alleged that the BJP government has not been serious about policies so far and is implementing the process of removing old vehicles from the roads like a 'Tughlaqi decree'.

Considering the severity of air pollution in Delhi, the government had announced the implementation of a policy from July 1, 2025, to not provide fuel at petrol pumps to 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol/CNG vehicles. The aim of this policy was to reduce the pollution caused by the rapidly increasing 55 to 62 lakh old vehicles in the capital. However, due to technical difficulties, such as malfunctioning ANPR cameras and lack of real-time data sync, it was withdrawn on July 3. Now, this policy has been postponed until November 1, 2025, and is under reconsideration.

Also targeted the BJP on Widow Pension

Along with the vehicle issue, Atishi also cornered the BJP over the widow pension scam. She said that the BJP has already cut the pension of 25,000 widows and is now preparing to cut the pension of 60,000 more women. These are those women who are completely helpless, they don't even have money to travel. She accused the BJP of adopting anti-poor policies and said that it is now clear that the face of the BJP is anti-people.
