Banks across different parts of India will remain closed for a total of six days between September 21 and September 27, 2026, due to regional holidays and scheduled weekend closures. The holidays will not apply uniformly across the country.

Bank holidays in India are determined based on the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar and local holidays observed by individual states. As a result, bank branches may remain closed in one city or state while operating normally in another. Customers are advised to check with their local branch or the official holiday list before visiting a bank.

Bank holidays from September 21 to September 27, 2026

On September 21, Monday, bank branches in Guwahati, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed on the occasions of Srimanta Sankardeva Jayanti and Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day.

On September 22, Tuesday, bank branches in Ranchi will observe a holiday on account of Karma Puja. Banking services involving physical branch operations may be affected in the region.

On September 23, Wednesday, banks in Jammu and Srinagar will remain closed to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh. The holiday will apply specifically to the designated region, while branches in other parts of the country may remain open.

On September 25, Friday, bank branches in Gangtok, Sikkim, will remain closed due to the Indra Jatra festival. Customers requiring cash deposits, cheque-related services or other branch-based banking services may need to complete those transactions before the holiday.

September 26, Saturday, is the fourth Saturday of the month. Under the RBI’s scheduled banking holiday rules, bank branches across the country will remain closed on this day.

On September 27, Sunday, bank branches across the country will observe their regular weekly holiday. The two consecutive days of closure may require customers to wait until the next working day for branch-related services.

Digital banking services remain available during branch closures

Several digital banking services will remain available even when bank branches are closed. Customers can generally use internet banking, mobile banking, UPI and ATMs for services such as money transfers, bill payments, mobile recharges and checking account balances.

Digital payments can also be made through UPI platforms such as Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm. However, services may be affected by technical issues, maintenance or transaction limits at a particular bank. Customers may therefore check the status of their banking application before making essential payments.
