BCCI Affirms India-Pakistan Asia Cup Match Contingent on Government Policy

The Asia Cup 2025 is set to commence on September 9 in the UAE. In this tournament, the teams of India and Pakistan will once again face each other. The high-voltage match between the two countries will be played on September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Sports News: For cricket enthusiasts, the most talked-about match of the Asia Cup 2025 will be between India and Pakistan. This high-voltage match is scheduled to be held on September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium. However, after the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, apprehensions were being expressed about this match. Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has clarified its stance on this matter.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has stated that the match between India and Pakistan will only be played if the central government's policy permits it. He clarified that the board always follows the government's decision and there is no ambiguity in this regard.

BCCI's Clear Stance

In a statement given to PTI in an interview, Saikia said, "BCCI's stance on the match against Pakistan is absolutely clear. We support the decision of the central government. The Indian government has formulated a policy, and we have to adhere to that policy. We have no problem in following the policy made by the government."

His statement makes it clear that the BCCI will not play against Pakistan under any circumstances without the government's approval. When asked during the interview if Shubman Gill could be made captain of all three formats in the near future, Saikia refrained from commenting on the question.

He said, "This is not the right time to make hasty statements about a player's future. Any decision regarding captaincy will be taken thoughtfully and at the right time."

Hopes for the Women's World Cup

The Women's ODI World Cup 2025 is scheduled to begin on September 30 in India and Sri Lanka. Ahead of this major tournament, the BCCI Secretary expressed confidence in the Indian women's team. Saikia stated that the women's team has played excellent cricket in the last two years and their performance in the recent series against England was also very b. He informed that the female players are continuously practicing in Visakhapatnam and have been fully focused on preparation for the last 6-7 months.

To promote women's cricket and attract more spectators to the stadium, the BCCI has kept the ticket prices for the Women's World Cup very low. Spectators can enjoy the World Cup matches for just Rs 100. Saikia said, "We want women's cricket to become more popular. We want players to play in packed stadiums and receive the same support as the men's team. By reducing ticket prices, we have tried to ensure that as many people as possible come to watch the matches."
