The faces of government officials and employees light up with joy. Now, another decision in Bhopal district could become a cause for their happiness. Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh has sent a proposal to the government to declare October 1st as a local holiday.
Bhopal: There is good news for government employees in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. More than 30,000 officers and employees working in the district may benefit from a local holiday on October 1st, coinciding with Mahanavami. Bhopal Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh has prepared and submitted this holiday proposal to the state government. Upon the government's approval, all state government offices in Bhopal district will remain closed on this day. However, central government offices and establishments will continue to operate as usual.
Why Was The Proposal Sent?
Actually, a local holiday was initially proposed for August 27th in Bhopal on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. However, the state government declared a general holiday for the entire state on that very day. Consequently, one local holiday allocated for Bhopal district became "unused." For this reason, the Collector has submitted a proposal to declare October 1st, the day of Mahanavami, as a local holiday.
Local Holiday Arrangement in Bhopal District
It is noteworthy that four local holidays are designated annually in Bhopal district. For the year 2024, the following holidays have been declared so far:
- Makar Sankranti – January 14
- Rangpanchami – March 19
- Ganesh Chaturthi – August 27
- Bhopal Gas Tragedy Anniversary Day – December 3 (only for Bhopal city)
According to the proposal submitted by the Collector, a local holiday may now be declared on Mahanavami (October 1st, Wednesday) instead of August 27th. If the government approves this proposal, all state government offices in Bhopal will remain closed on October 1st. Registrar offices will also be closed, making property registrations impossible on that day.
The ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminal) and other key government offices will also remain closed due to the holiday. The general public will need to wait until the next working day for administrative tasks. However, central government employees will not be able to avail this holiday. Railways, the postal department, and other central offices will continue to operate as usual.
For government employees, holidays consistently serve as a source of relief and happiness. If this proposal is approved in Bhopal, over 30,000 officers and employees will have the opportunity to participate in family and social events. Given Mahanavami's religious and cultural significance, this holiday is also considered administratively appropriate.
