In anticipation of the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar scheduled for October-November, the Election Commission has initiated a voter list revision campaign to ensure the accuracy and fairness of the electoral rolls.
Patna: A special revision campaign for the voter list has commenced in Patna as part of the preparations for the Bihar Assembly elections. Considering the potential elections in the state in October-November 2025, the Election Commission has intensified the process of door-to-door enumeration, deploying Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the voter list. In areas like Maurya Path and Ram Nagari in Patna, BLOs are visiting voters early in the morning, providing necessary information, and assisting them in filling out the enumeration forms.
However, some confusion regarding required documents is observed among voters. When the ABP News team visited the area, many voters expressed that they were not fully aware of the process and were uncertain about the documents needed. BLOs are continuously explaining to the public which documents are required and how to fill the forms.
Which documents are required?
According to the Election Commission's directives, individuals born before July 1, 1987, must provide valid documents along with the form to prove their date and place of birth. These include:
- Any identification card issued before 1987
- Certificates issued by the government, banks, post offices, LIC, or PSUs
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- Educational certificates issued by any recognized board or university
- Domicile certificate
- OBC/SC/ST caste certificate
- Forest rights certificate
- Family register
- Certificate of land or house issued by the government
Increased Deployment of BLOs and Volunteers
To smoothly complete the voter list verification process, the Election Commission has appointed 20,603 new BLOs in addition to the existing 77,895 BLOs. Furthermore, over 1 lakh volunteers have been deployed specifically to assist elderly, disabled, sick, and marginalized voters.
Political parties have also actively participated in this process. So far, 1,54,977 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) have been deployed. Approximately 7.89 crore voters across the 243 assembly constituencies of Bihar are covered under this special revision campaign.
When will the revised voter list be released?
The door-to-door survey work will be completed by July 25. After that, the Election Commission will verify the forms and documents. Names of individuals who are not verified or found deceased will be removed from the list. New voters will be added. The draft of the revised voter list will be published on August 1, on which claims and objections can be filed until September 1. All claims and objections will be resolved within September, and the final voter list will be released on September 30.
As the assembly elections approach, removing fake voters and duplicate names becomes a major challenge. Through this campaign, the Election Commission aims to make the voter list accurate, transparent, and up-to-date so that the elections can be conducted in a fair and reliable manner.
