A horrific road accident shook Buxar district, Bihar, on Friday night. The accident occurred on the old Ganga bridge, where a speeding Scorpio SUV broke through the railing and plunged into the Ganga River.
Patna: A devastating road accident on Friday night sent shockwaves through Buxar district, Bihar. A speeding Scorpio, traveling on the old Ganga bridge, crashed through the railing and fell into the Ganga River. Two bodies have been recovered, while the search for other occupants continues.
Accident at 8:30 PM, Panic Ensues
The incident reportedly occurred around 8:30 PM on Friday. Eyewitnesses stated that the Scorpio suddenly lost control, breaking through the bridge's sturdy railing and plunging into the river. Local police and a diving team immediately arrived at the scene following the accident and initiated rescue operations.
Nagar Thanaध्यक्ष Manoj Kumar Singh reported that the body of Arjun, also known as Jham Singh, was recovered around 1 AM following the accident. The body of Harsh Kumar and the Scorpio were retrieved from the river on Saturday. Both deceased have been identified, and their bodies sent for post-mortem examination.
Airbags Deployed; High Speed and Negligence Suspected
An examination of the vehicle revealed that both airbags in the Scorpio had deployed, indicating a significant impact. Police suspect the vehicle was traveling at a high speed, and the driver likely lost control, leading to the accident. A large section of the bridge railing was also damaged, highlighting the severity of the incident.
The exact number of occupants in the Scorpio remains unconfirmed. However, police believe there were likely four to five people in the vehicle. The families of Arjun and Harsh were devastated upon learning of their deaths. Their relatives arrived at the scene, overcome with grief. The accident has cast a pall of sorrow over the village and surrounding areas.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with the SDRF team also deployed to search the Ganga River for any potential missing individuals. Authorities have stated that the search will continue until the status of all possible passengers is clarified.
