Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made an important announcement for the youth on Thursday (September 18, 2025). The state government has decided to expand the Chief Minister's Self-Reliance Allowance Scheme, which is currently underway as part of its 'Saat Nishchay' program. This new initiative will provide monthly financial assistance to thousands of unemployed graduate young men and women.
Scheme Extended to Graduates
Previously, only unemployed youth who had passed intermediate (12th grade) were eligible for this scheme. However, its scope has now been broadened to include unemployed youth who have graduated in Arts, Science, and Commerce streams. This will provide relief to the educated unemployed youth of Bihar in their preparation for employment.
The Chief Minister clarified that young men and women between the ages of 20 and 25 years, who are not currently studying, employed, or engaged in self-employment, will be eligible for this scheme. All such individuals will receive assistance from the government at a rate of ₹1000 per month. This assistance will continue for a maximum of two years.
Message from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar
The Chief Minister shared information about this scheme through the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, "I hope that the youth of the state will use this assistance allowance for their studies, training, and preparation for competitive examinations. This will lead them towards a secure and bright future."
This announcement is being viewed as an indication of the state government's sensitivity and commitment towards the youth. Unemployment has been a long-standing challenge in Bihar. Particularly, there is a sense of disappointment among the youth due to a lack of employment even after completing their education up to the graduate level. In such a scenario, this step by the government could prove to be a major relief for them.
