Patna: Bihar is under alert for continuous rainfall for the next four to five days. The capital city, Patna, experienced intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning on Tuesday (August 19) evening, prompting a yellow alert in several areas. Bhagalpur, Araria, Purnia, and other districts were also placed under an orange alert for three hours. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in several districts on Wednesday (August 20). The eastern and south-central regions of the state are expected to remain cloudy with continued rainfall during the day.

Alerts Issued in Various Districts of the State

The Meteorological Department issued alerts for approximately 12 districts, not just Patna. Bhagalpur, Araria, Purnia, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Saharsa, and Katihar were under an orange alert from 6:35 PM to 9:35 PM. These districts were predicted to experience intense and heavy rainfall within three hours.

A yellow alert was issued for Saran, Nalanda, Jehanabad, and Bhojpur districts from 9:20 PM to 12:20 AM. These areas were also warned of lightning strikes along with rainfall. This indicates that the weather is more active in the eastern and south-central parts of the state.

Patna Weather Update

The maximum temperature in Patna on Tuesday was recorded at 34.3 degrees Celsius. The afternoon felt hot, but the temperature dropped in the evening due to heavy rainfall. The rainfall in the capital city led to waterlogging in several areas, affecting road traffic.

Additionally, local residents faced inconvenience due to lightning and thunderstorms during the rainfall. The Meteorological Department advised citizens to stay in safe places and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.

Heavy Rainfall Records and Information on Other Districts

According to the Meteorological Department, Aurangabad recorded 67.4 millimeters of rainfall on Tuesday. Begusarai, Patna, Nalanda, and Nawada districts also remained cloudy with rainfall throughout the day.

Experts say that continuous rainfall is likely in most districts of the state for the next four to five days. Special vigilance is required in eastern districts such as Araria, Purnia, and Kishanganj. The rainfall is also expected to continue in several districts in the southern and central parts of the state.

Warning from the Meteorological Department

Weather experts have warned that heavy rainfall is likely to occur in several districts of the state on August 20, 2025. The risk of waterlogging and flooding may increase in low-lying areas and areas near rivers. The state government has instructed the administration to remain vigilant. Citizens have been advised to stay in safe places, avoid unnecessary travel, and avoid going to waterlogged areas. The health department has also advised people to be cautious, keeping in mind the risk of waterborne diseases.
