In Amravati, BJP leader Navneet Rana received a letter threatening her life and gang rape. The police have registered an FIR and started an investigation, gathering evidence that the letter was sent from Hyderabad.

Amravati: BJP leader and former MP Navneet Rana has once again received threats of murder and gang rape. The letter was sent to her Amravati office via speed post. Taking the seriousness of the matter into account, the police have registered a complaint and initiated an investigation. This threatening letter is believed to be part of a series of threats sent to Rana recently.

Amravati Police Took Swift Action

After a complaint was lodged at the Rajapeth Police Station, the Amravati Crime Branch took immediate steps. A police team reached Rana's residence, conducted inquiries, and registered an FIR. Officials state that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly and transparently. The police also mentioned that speed post records and other technical examinations are being utilized to investigate the letter.

Letter Sent from Hyderabad

Preliminary investigation revealed that the threatening letter was sent from Hyderabad. The letter was written by a person named Javed. Police teams from both Amravati and Hyderabad are cooperating to identify the sender of the letter and ascertain their motive. The police are also looking into whether this threat is linked to any previous incident or political reason.

Previous Threats Received

Navneet Rana has received threats before. On October 12, 2024, she received a letter with similar language and threats. In that letter, a person claiming to be Aamir mentioned gang rape, cow slaughter, raised pro-Pakistan slogans, and demanded a ransom of ₹10 crore. 

Navneet Rana's Political Journey

Navneet Rana has worked in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Punjabi films. In 2014, she entered politics and contested the Lok Sabha elections from Amravati on an NCP ticket but lost. Subsequently, in 2019, she won as an independent candidate, defeating Shiv Sena's Anand Adsul. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rana joined the BJP but lost to Congress candidate Balwant Wankhede by 19,731 votes.

Scope of Investigation Widened

Amravati police state that the latest threatening letter is being taken seriously. The investigation is exploring the letter's source, speed post records, connections to Hyderabad, and potential links to previous threats. Police have intensified the investigation in collaboration with local and other state agencies. Officials have appealed to citizens to immediately report any suspicious letters or messages to the police.

Amravati police have increased security for Rana and her office. Officials are ensuring that no untoward incident occurs. Furthermore, legal action is being taken against the sender of the letter under Sections 506 (Criminal Intimidation) and 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code. The police are attempting to identify the sender using technical equipment and digital forensics.
