BJP MP Claims Indira Gandhi Sought US Help for 1971 War Ceasefire, Demands Action Against Rahul Gandhi

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey claimed that Indira Gandhi sought help from US President Nixon for a ceasefire during the 1971 war. He demanded action against Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.

Nishikant Dubey: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey has made a significant statement regarding the 1971 Indo-Pak war. He has claimed that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi sought help from the United States to broker a ceasefire during the final stages of the war. Dubey presented a letter purportedly written by Indira Gandhi to the then US President Richard Nixon on December 5, 1971, in support of his claim.

Allegations of Spreading Falsehoods Against Congress

Referring to Rahul Gandhi's speech in the Lok Sabha, Dubey stated that the Congress party is consistently distorting the history of the 1971 war. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi provided misleading information in Parliament regarding Indira Gandhi's role and misled the public.

What did the letter say?

Nishikant Dubey alleged that Indira Gandhi wrote in the letter that the Government of India was in danger and that an immediate ceasefire was necessary. She appealed to the US to persuade Pakistan to stop the war. According to Dubey, this shows that the government at that time had, in a way, surrendered to the US, while India had captured 93,000 Pakistani soldiers and had gained a decisive advantage in the war.

Demand for Action from Lok Sabha Speaker

Further escalating the matter, Nishikant Dubey has written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, demanding action against Rahul Gandhi under Rule 115. He stated that Rahul Gandhi presented historical facts in a distorted manner on the floor of the House, which is against democratic process.

Targeting the Media and History

Nishikant Dubey also accused the Congress of controlling the media and presenting history according to their convenience. He said that people have been taught until now that Indira Gandhi decisively defeated Pakistan despite US pressure. But the real history says something else.

What is the context of the letter?

The letter presented by Dubey has been historically controversial. It mentions Indira Gandhi seeking Nixon's intervention for a ceasefire. However, official confirmation or denial of this letter has not yet been issued by the government. This letter is also not clearly available in the public domain, raising questions about its authenticity.

No Response from Congress

As of now, there has been no direct reaction from the Congress party to Nishikant Dubey's statement. However, the Congress party has denied these claims in the past and continues to present the 1971 war as a major diplomatic and military success of Indira Gandhi.
