The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has prepared a broad roadmap for major organisational changes and a possible expansion of the Union Cabinet. The party leadership has emphasised promoting younger leaders while maintaining a balance with experienced leadership. The final decision on the proposed changes will be taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to sources, a high-level marathon meeting was held late Monday night at the residence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, where possible changes at both the organisational and government levels were discussed in detail.
The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, Organisation General Secretary B.L. Santosh and several senior leaders, including a representative coordinating on behalf of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). During the nearly five-hour meeting, a detailed blueprint for the BJP’s new organisational team and a possible Union Cabinet expansion was prepared. The discussions focused on bringing emerging leaders from various states into key roles and accelerating generational transition within the party.
Under the new strategy, the party leadership has decided to increase the participation of younger leaders in the organisation. Particular emphasis is being placed on promoting emerging faces from states where the BJP sees opportunities for expansion. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are among the states being prioritised. The party aims to strengthen its grassroots presence in these regions by assigning organisational responsibilities to younger leaders.
Sources said younger leaders may be considered for positions such as national general secretaries and secretaries, while experienced leaders are likely to be preferred for key positions including vice-presidents, the Parliamentary Board and the Central Election Committee.
The BJP’s strategy places emphasis on balancing experience and youthful leadership. While preparations are underway to introduce new faces into the organisational structure, experienced leaders are expected to continue playing a role in top decision-making positions. The strategy has been framed with upcoming elections and organisational expansion in mind, with the objective of strengthening the party’s long-term leadership structure.
The RSS has also provided suggestions as part of the restructuring process. According to sources, the RSS believes the party should build a new team capable of ensuring leadership continuity for the next 15 to 20 years. It has suggested assigning responsibilities at the central level to leaders who are active in the states and possess organisational experience. Emphasis has also been placed on commitment to ideology as a key criterion for selection.
Sources indicated that significant changes may be seen in the upcoming Union Cabinet expansion. A reshuffle in several ministries is being considered with the aim of making the functioning of the government more effective. Strategic political equations are also being reviewed in light of recent political developments and the potential support of MPs from various parties.
Although the organisational and Cabinet expansion roadmap has been prepared, the final decision will be taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sources said the Prime Minister, who recently returned from a foreign visit, is expected to hold detailed discussions on the proposed plan before a final announcement is made.
