The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its manifesto, termed ‘Sankalp Patra’, for the Assam Assembly elections 2026, outlining commitments on development, employment, education, healthcare, protection of Assamese identity, and economic expansion through large-scale investment.
The document was unveiled at an event in Guwahati in the presence of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP president Dilip Saikia, and other senior leaders.
The party presented the manifesto as a framework for the state’s future rather than a list of electoral promises, stating that it is based on development work carried out over the past ten years and sets the direction ahead.
Nirmala Sitharaman, while releasing the document, stated that it reflects changes witnessed in Assam over the past decade. She said that work not completed by the Congress over a long period had been achieved by the BJP government in a shorter timeframe.
She also stated that earlier, the development of the North-East did not receive adequate attention, but the situation has changed. According to her, new opportunities have emerged in Assam under the BJP government, leading to youth returning to the state and seeking employment locally.

The manifesto places emphasis on maintaining peace and stability in Assam, with the party stating that development is contingent on a stable environment.
Nirmala Sitharaman stated that Assam had faced prolonged unrest and security challenges in the past, but conditions have improved. She added that government policies have strengthened law and order and created an environment conducive to investment.
The BJP has emphasised increasing employment opportunities for youth, stating that new industries will be established and skill development initiatives will be prioritised. The party stated that it aims to ensure employment opportunities within the state so that youth do not need to migrate elsewhere.
The manifesto includes commitments to improve education and healthcare services. It states that the quality of schools and colleges will be enhanced and modern facilities will be provided.
In the healthcare sector, the party has committed to increasing the number of hospitals, improving treatment facilities, and expanding healthcare services to rural areas, stating that these measures will improve living standards.
The BJP has also highlighted the protection of Assamese identity and the rights of indigenous people as key priorities. The manifesto states that measures will be taken to preserve culture, traditions, and language, along with ensuring protection of land and heritage. It also states that strict action will be taken against illegal encroachments and other threats to safeguard the rights of local residents.
The party has set a target to develop Assam as a gateway to the East, with a proposed investment of approximately Rs 5 lakh crore. It stated that this investment would accelerate industrial, commercial, and infrastructure development, increase employment opportunities, and strengthen the state’s economy.
Voting for the 126 seats in the Assam Assembly elections 2026 will be held in a single phase on April 9, with results scheduled to be announced on May 4. The primary contest in the state is expected to be between the BJP and the Congress, with both parties engaged in campaign preparations.
