BSP Focuses on Backward Classes for 2027 Assembly Elections. OBC candidates will be prioritized in Panchayat elections, and preparations have begun at the booth level to double the number of seats.
UP Election: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has intensified its strategy for the 2027 Assembly elections. This time, the party's focus is clearly on the Other Backward Classes (OBC). Considering the Panchayat elections as a rehearsal for the Assembly elections, the BSP has decided that OBC candidates will be given priority in these elections.
The party believes that if OBC candidates win in large numbers in the Panchayat elections, it will lay a b foundation for the Assembly elections as well. For this, teams are being formed at the booth level, especially including young people from the backward classes.
Eye on Core Vote Bank and Muslim Support Too
The BSP's traditional vote bank has been the Scheduled Castes (SC), while the party has previously received support from Muslims and other sections. Through social engineering, the BSP had also brought the Brahmin and Vaishya communities in its favor, with whose support the party reached power.
However, in the last few elections, this social engineering has weakened, and the BSP's vote bank has started to disintegrate. Other parties also have their eyes on this core vote bank of the BSP. This is why the party is now trying to bring together the backward classes and the Muslim community again to strengthen its grip.
19 Seats Won in the Previous Panchayat Elections
The experience of Panchayat elections has been mixed for the BSP. In the previous Panchayat elections, the party won 19 seats. However, this time the BSP's target is to double the number of these seats.
To achieve this goal, the party has prepared a special plan. OBC coordinators have been appointed at the district level. For example, Shiv Singh Kushwaha has been made the district coordinator of OBCs, who will work to connect people from the backward classes in his area.
Strong Network at Booth Level
Under the BSP's strategy, a team of five youths is being formed at each booth, with priority being given to the backward classes. This team will play an important role in election campaigning, voter outreach, and understanding local issues.
The party believes that Panchayat elections are not just local politics, but they can also determine the direction of the Assembly elections. For this reason, the activity of youth is being increased at every booth and cadre-level meetings are being held regularly.
'Ground Work' for 2027 Elections
According to BSP District President Vimal Verma, the party is already working at the grassroots level. A better performance in the Panchayat elections will create an atmosphere for the Assembly elections. A direct dialogue with the public at the local level will be established through the winning candidates.
This time, the party is emphasizing on creating unity not only among OBCs but also among Scheduled Caste and Muslim voters. Vimal Verma says that "Our goal is to win double the number of seats in the Panchayat elections compared to last time and reach a b position in the 2027 Assembly elections."
