Crackdown on Religious Conversion Racket: Changur Baba's Network Under Scrutiny

The Yogi government is taking swift action against Jalaluddin alias Changur Baba, who runs a business of illegal religious conversions. Changur Baba's illicit activities were not limited to Uttar Pradesh alone, but his network was also active in the neighboring state of Uttarakhand.

Balrampur: The government is continuously tightening its grip on the network of Jalaluddin alias Changur Baba, who runs an illegal religious conversion racket in Uttar Pradesh. Changur Baba's network was not limited to UP, but extended to the neighboring state of Uttarakhand. In this connection, UP ATS has taken two important suspects, Abdul Rahman and Maryam, into custody from Uttarakhand. Interrogation of both is going on and it has come to light in the initial investigation that they were handling the conversion network in Uttarakhand for the Changur gang.

ATS's major action in Uttarakhand

UP ATS has started interrogation by taking Abdul Rahman from Shankarpur and Maryam from Doiwala, Uttarakhand into custody. Both were involved in suspicious activities for a long time, on which ATS had been keeping an eye. According to sources, Abdul Rahman was an active member of Changur Baba's network at the local level and was playing an important role in the operation of this conversion racket.

ATS has seized several documents and electronic devices from Rahman's house, which are being investigated. Abdul Rahman is being brought to UP for questioning so that it can be ascertained how deep the roots of this network are in Dehradun and which places its wires are connected to.

Maryam's role also suspicious

In the preliminary investigation, Maryam is suspected of playing an important role in this racket. The police are now engaged in scanning Maryam's local contacts, activities and financial transactions. The expansion of this network in Dehradun and surrounding areas is also being investigated. According to local sources, Maryam was playing an active role in connecting new people to Changur Baba's racket and in promoting conversion. The police are gathering information about Maryam's activities from local people and other sources.

A day before this, UP ATS and ED had raided 14 locations across the country belonging to Changur Baba. Raids were also conducted at two locations in Bandra and Mahim in Mumbai, where Shahzada, a member of the Changur gang, was interrogated for several hours. ED's investigation revealed that suspicious transactions of about Rs 2 crore had taken place in Shahzada's bank accounts, which could be related to conversion and illegal funding. Apart from this, Changur's nephew Sohrab has also been arrested by UP ATS earlier.

Changur Baba's network spread abroad

According to investigation agencies, the funding that Changur Baba raised for this black business of conversion was used through a network spread from Mumbai to Balrampur in UP. So far, 18 bank accounts have been traced in the investigation, through which funds were transferred. It is being told that the amount that came into these accounts was used for illegal conversions, running madrasas and strengthening the network.

According to agencies, Changur Baba's network is not limited to India, but extends to Islamic countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Funding was done from abroad through five bank accounts in these countries, which are now being investigated by ED and ATS. According to reports, members of the gang have also visited 40 to 50 Islamic countries. The purpose of these visits was to raise funds from abroad and expand the network of conversion in India.

Big disclosure in the red diary

When UP ATS raided Changur Baba's hideout in Balrampur, a 'red diary' was recovered from a woman named Neetu alias Nasreen. The names of several leaders and administrative officers were found recorded in this diary. According to sources, this diary contained complete details of how and to whom funding was given for conversion, and how much money was given to leaders and officers.

It has also been revealed that Changur Baba was preparing to make a former IPS officer his candidate in the upcoming UP assembly elections. In the last election, he had funded a leader Rs 90 lakh for the election, although the leader lost the election.
