Mirzapur Train Accident: A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday morning at Chunar Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district. Six devotees died after being hit by the Howrah-Kalka Mail while crossing the railway tracks. The accident was so horrific that the bodies were severely mutilated, making identification difficult. After the incident, chaos erupted at the station, and an atmosphere of panic and fear was observed among the passengers present. Local residents expressed anger over the accident and held the railway administration responsible for negligence.
How the Accident Happened
On Wednesday morning, the Gomo-Prayagraj Barwadih Passenger train, arriving from Sonbhadra, reached platform number four of Chunar Railway Station at approximately 9:15 AM. Many devotees on board this train had come to Chunar to bathe in the Ganga river on the occasion of Kartik Purnima.

After alighting from the train on platform number four, the devotees began crossing the railway tracks to go towards platform number three. At the same moment, the high-speed Howrah-Kalka Mail train was passing through on the through line. The devotees could not see the train and were suddenly hit by it.

The train's impact was so severe that the bodies of the devotees were severed and scattered far and wide. Cries of distress erupted among the passengers and local residents present at the scene. Everyone panicked and started running helter-skelter. Upon receiving information about the accident, GRP and RPF personnel immediately rushed to the spot. They collected the body parts and sent them for post-mortem examination. Due to the condition of the bodies, identifying the deceased is proving extremely difficult. Security forces and railway officials are engaged in the identification process.
Railway Administration's Response
Following the incident, a statement released by the railways said that train number 13309 Chopan - Prayagraj Express had arrived at platform number four of Chunar Station. During this time, some passengers alighted from the wrong side and started crossing the main line tracks despite the presence of a foot over bridge.

At the same time, train number 12311 Netaji Express was passing on the main line, hitting three to four people who died on the spot. According to the railway administration, this incident is a result of negligence while crossing the tracks.
Devotees Had Come for Kartik Purnima Bath
The devotees who died in the accident had come to Chunar with the purpose of bathing on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima. As every year, a large number of devotees had gathered in the area this time as well. Due to the large crowd after alighting from the train, many people hastily decided to cross the railway tracks, which proved fatal.
Identification Process Underway
Following the incident, the railway police and district administration are engaged in identifying the deceased. Local residents stated that the condition of the bodies is so severe that identification is difficult. The administration has initiated the process of contacting the families of the deceased.
