The appointments were formally notified by the President after receiving approval from the Government of India. The Union Ministry of Law and Justice approved the appointments based on the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium. The President granted final approval to the appointments after consultation with the Chief Justice of India in accordance with the judicial appointments process.

Appointments to the Supreme Court of India are made through the collegium system, under which the Chief Justice of India and the four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court recommend names for vacancies. In recent meetings, the collegium recommended the names of senior judges from various High Courts and one senior advocate, following which the Union government completed the required process and approved the appointments.
