The Congress party held a workers' conference in Nawalgarh of Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district to prepare for the upcoming panchayat and urban local body elections. The meeting focused on strengthening the party organisation at the booth level, formulating the election strategy, and selecting suitable candidates. Party leaders called on workers to remain united, intensify public outreach, and prepare collectively for the elections.
The conference was held at the Maharshi Angira Seva Samiti Bhawan, with Congress State Co-Incharge Chiranjee Rao attending as the chief guest. The event was attended by local office-bearers, public representatives, and party workers.
The primary objective of the conference was to strengthen the organisational structure ahead of the panchayat and urban local body elections. Leaders said that active and organised booth-level workers play the most important role in electoral success. Party workers were asked to take the party's policies and programmes to every village, ward, and polling station while maintaining continuous engagement with local residents.
Addressing the gathering, Chiranjee Rao claimed that the results of the recent by-elections indicated that the public was looking for change. He said Congress could benefit from the prevailing political environment only if the organisation entered the electoral contest with unity and discipline. Referring to the Bharatiya Janata Party, he said people were seeking answers on issues related to development, employment, and public welfare. He appealed to party workers to conduct positive campaigning and strengthen public outreach efforts.
Chiranjee Rao also referred to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his address. He said the Congress leadership had consistently raised issues concerning youth and students and had given national prominence to matters related to education and employment. He added that increasing youth participation in local elections remained one of the party's priorities.
During the conference, it was announced that a special committee would be constituted to select candidates for the panchayat and urban local body elections. The committee will identify suitable candidates based on local feedback and organisational inputs. Party leaders said priority would be given to commitment to the organisation, public acceptance, and social engagement during the selection process. They also said special emphasis would be placed on providing opportunities to workers below 50 years of age and to women.
Congress Holds Nawalgarh Workers Conference Ahead of Rajasthan Panchayat and Urban Local Body Elections
Former Rajasthan Minister of State for Medical and Health Dr Rajkumar Sharma, who presided over the conference, said coordination and unity among party workers were essential for success in local elections. He urged workers to reach a consensus on selecting b candidates to maximise the party's electoral performance. He also stated that he would campaign only for officially authorised Congress candidates.
The conference also discussed the ongoing agitation in the Gothra area. Dr Rajkumar Sharma alleged that cases had been unfairly registered against people protesting the cement plant. He said that if appropriate action was not taken and the relevant legal provisions were not reviewed by August 10, Congress would begin an indefinite sit-in protest outside the Gothra police station from August 11. No immediate official response from the administration was available on the issue.
Several senior Congress leaders and office-bearers attended the conference, including Assembly Incharge Vasudev Kushwaha, District President of Mahila Congress Shakuntala Yadav, Congress Secretary Pradyumn Singh Rathore, District Co-Incharge Riyazat Khan, social worker Kailash Chotiya, former municipal chairperson Richhpal Saini, and Mukundgarh Municipal Chairperson Satyanarayan Saini.
At the beginning of the programme, Block Congress President Baldev Saini, District Secretary Adnan Khatri, Rajendra Bhaskar, Suresh Kumar Meghwal, Praveen Kulhari, Lokesh Jangid, Subhita Seegad, Rajveer Singh, Surgyan Saini, and other party workers welcomed the guests. The event was conducted by Suresh Nehra.
Political parties in Rajasthan have intensified organisational activities ahead of the panchayat and urban local body elections. Both Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party are conducting workers' meetings, public outreach campaigns, and organisational expansion initiatives.
Political analysts said local elections serve not only as a test of local leadership but also help shape the direction of future state-level politics. Political parties are therefore focusing on candidate selection, organisational expansion, and voter outreach.
According to Congress leaders, similar workers' conferences will be organised in various districts and Assembly constituencies in the coming days. These meetings will review booth-level preparations, activate the party organisation, and finalise the election strategy.
