Congress MP Robbed in Delhi: Security Concerns Rise Amidst Political Scuffle

Amidst rising criminal incidents in the capital, another case has come to light, where Congress MP R. Sudha Ramakrishnan from Tamil Nadu was robbed on Monday morning. This incident not only raises questions about the security arrangements in the capital but has also triggered political accusations and counter-accusations.

Chain Snatched by Bike-Borne Miscreants During Morning Walk

A stir was caused in Delhi's VIP area of Chanakyapuri on Monday (August 4th) morning when Congress MP R. Sudha Ramakrishnan was out for a morning walk, and a short distance away, bike-borne miscreants snatched her gold chain. The incident occurred near the Polish Embassy, close to Tamil Nadu Bhavan. The criminals fled the scene after snatching the chain.

The MP tried to defend herself, but sustained injuries in several places during the scuffle. The law and order situation in the capital is once again under scrutiny after the incident, especially given that it involves a female Member of Parliament.

The police have registered a case and started an investigation. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined to identify and arrest the accused as soon as possible. However, no arrests have been confirmed so far.

MP Writes Letter to Home Minister

MP R. Sudha Ramakrishnan, representing the Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha constituency, informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah about the incident in a letter. She described how criminals brazenly snatched her chain in the middle of the capital in the morning and fled.

In the letter, she stated that she also sustained physical injuries in the incident. She appealed to the Home Minister to instruct the Delhi Police to take strict action to ensure the swift arrest of the criminals and prevent such incidents in the future. She also demanded concrete steps to ensure the safety of ordinary citizens, especially women, in the capital.

Aam Aadmi Party's Attack

On this incident, Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi government minister Saurabh Bharadwaj launched a scathing attack on the BJP government and the security arrangements in the capital. Sharing a post on social media platform 'X', he wrote, "Chain and mobile snatching have become so common in Delhi that people don't even bother to file an FIR anymore. They feel that the police will do nothing and it will only be a waste of time."

Bharadwaj said that the incident happened at 6 am with a female MP, which is an indication that now no one feels safe in the capital, whether it is an ordinary citizen or a public representative. He questioned who would take responsibility for law and order in Delhi.

The Police Have Been Politicized

The AAP leader alleged that thousands of posts are vacant in the Delhi Police and the central government is not ready to fill them. He said that the police personnel who are on duty are engaged in political work such as VIP security and targeting AAP leaders, instead of protecting the general public.

Bharadwaj also said that the Delhi Police's performance is now evaluated not on their public service but on their compliance with political orders. Their postings are decided on this basis, which is a departure from the police's core responsibilities.

If You Want to Live Peacefully...

Saurabh Bharadwaj, commenting on the deteriorating state of women's safety in Delhi, said that women here no longer go for morning walks wearing gold chains. He wrote, "If you want to live peacefully, leave your chain at home."

He also said that since R. Sudha is an MP from Tamil Nadu, she may not have had an accurate idea of the actual security situation in Delhi. But this incident has made her aware of the reality of Delhi.

Capital's Security Under Question

This incident comes at a time when Delhi is already witnessing an increase in incidents of robbery, snatching, and theft. The robbery with the female MP is not only creating an atmosphere of fear among the common people but is also raising serious questions about the government's working style and the police's accountability. Now it remains to be seen how quickly the police take action in this matter and when they are able to catch the culprits.
