Indore: The court has rejected the bail plea of the main accused in the Raja Raghuwanshi murder case in Shillong, Sonam Raghuwanshi. The court delivered this verdict on September 17. Sonam Raghuwanshi, who was seeking release from jail, will now remain incarcerated. The court turned down her plea after the Shillong police raised an objection.
790-Page Charge Sheet Filed in Murder Case
The SIT of the Shillong police filed a 790-page charge sheet in the court on September 6 in connection with this murder. The charge sheet detailed the allegations against Sonam Raghuwanshi. Investigations revealed that Sonam and her lover, Raj Kushwaha, had conspired to murder Raja along with three other individuals. The charge sheet contains all the evidence and a breakdown of the sequence of events.
Apart from Sonam, three other accused have already been released on bail. However, Sonam's bail plea, as the main accused, was denied by the court. The police have clarified the roles of all accused in addition to the evidence of the murder in the charge sheet. This decision by the court underscores the gravity of the case.
Murder Occurred in Shillong After Marriage
According to police records, Raja Raghuwanshi and Sonam Raghuwanshi got married on May 11. A few days after their wedding, the couple went to Shillong in Meghalaya for their honeymoon. From there, they proceeded to Sohra. Raja Raghuwanshi was murdered on May 23. It is alleged that Sonam and her lover, Raj, had pre-planned and carried out Raja's murder using a sharp weapon.
After the murder, the body was thrown into a deep gorge. Raja's body was recovered from a gorge in Sohra on June 2. Following this, the police launched an investigation into the matter. Sonam later surrendered to the police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. The police investigation clarified the murder plot, the weapon used, and the roles of the accused.
Five Accused Involved in the Murder, Including Sonam
Five individuals are implicated in this case. Besides Sonam and her lover Raj Kushwaha, three other people were found to be involved in this murder. Property dealer Shilom James, Lokendra Tomar, and security guard Balbir Singh are accused of destroying evidence. All three are currently out on bail.
Raja Raghuwanshi's brother, Vipin Raghuwanshi, stated that the entire family desires that Sonam and the other accused be given the death penalty. He mentioned that earlier, Govind Raghuwanshi used to say that he would ensure his sister was hanged if found guilty, but now he is distancing himself. The family's grief and demand for justice further amplify the seriousness of this murder case.
