DDCA Faces Scrutiny Over Delayed Secretary Elections Amidst Calls for Lodha Committee Compliance

Administrative activity has once again intensified within the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). The nine-year tenure of DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma is set to conclude in September, but the election process for this position has not yet commenced.

Sports News: Administrative stir has once again heightened over the Secretary post in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). According to information, the tenure of the current Secretary, Ashok Sharma, which spans nine years, is due to end in September 2025. However, there has been no discussion about the upcoming elections for this position so far. DDCA Directors and members have begun raising questions regarding this.

Message from Shyam Sundar Sharma

Former BCCI Legal Advisor and DDCA Director Shyam Sundar Sharma sent a message on a WhatsApp group to DDCA President Rohan Jaitley. In this, he clearly stated that compliance with the Lodha Committee's recommendations is mandatory. Shyam Sundar Sharma also demanded that elections for the Secretary post be conducted on time and suggested convening an Apex Council meeting in the first week of September. He urged that not only should elections be discussed in this meeting, but also that the Lodha Committee's rules should be implemented in their true spirit.

Adherence to Rules in BCCI and Other Cricket Associations

Rules are strictly followed in cricket administration. For instance:

  • BCCI President Roger Binny resigned upon completing 70 years of age.
  • Mahim Verma of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association also had to relinquish his post after completing the age limit. His wife was fielded in the elections in his place.
  • However, the situation is different in DDCA. Here, both resignation and elections are issues that are not being discussed.
  • Not conducting elections for the Secretary post is a disregard for the Lodha Committee's decision.

Director Shyam Sundar Sharma stated that not conducting elections after the completion of the tenure for the Secretary post is a violation of the Lodha Committee's rules. In large organizations like the BCCI, officials themselves resign to comply with the rules, but this process has not yet been implemented in DDCA. He also added that the organization's credibility is affected without transparency and adherence to rules.

Shyam Sundar Sharma also mentioned the success of the DPL Season 2. He said that this tournament provided an opportunity for young individuals to showcase their talent. Many players performed so exceptionally that it could open pathways for them to reach the IPL in the future.
