In view of the upcoming Vice Presidential elections in India in 2025, opposition alliance candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy has launched a sharp attack on the ruling NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan.
New Delhi: B. Sudarshan Reddy, the candidate of the opposition alliance 'INDIA' for the Vice Presidential election, has sharply attacked his rival and the ruling NDA's candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan. Addressing a press conference on Monday, Sudarshan Reddy alleged that Radhakrishnan is neither appearing in public nor making any statements. He said that if Radhakrishnan had openly expressed his views, a healthy debate could have been possible in the electoral process.
'My opponent is not visible' - Sudarshan Reddy
Sudarshan Reddy said, "My opponent is not visible. He does not speak. I don't know where he is or what he is doing. If both candidates had spoken, there would have been a possibility of a healthy debate and dialogue. It would have provided an opportunity to introduce themselves, not just to the voters." He added that his statement is from the perspective that open conversation and debate are essential for strengthening democracy in the Vice Presidential election.
Sudarshan Reddy also shared his views on the challenges facing the constitution and democracy in India. He stated that the biggest constitutional challenge currently facing the country is the flaws in the functioning of the Election Commission of India. He warned, "If this continues, democracy in this country will be in danger. This is extremely important for the protection of the constitution and the strengthening of democratic institutions."
Support from Opposition Parties
B. Sudarshan Reddy clarified that he is no longer just the candidate of the 'INDIA' alliance, but the joint candidate of the opposition parties. He stated that he also has the support of many parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which are not part of the 'INDIA' alliance. Reddy explained his decision to accept the electoral proposal as part of his 53-year judicial and constitutional journey. He described it as a duty to protect democracy and uphold the dignity of the constitution.
Sudarshan Reddy said, "The post of Vice President is not merely ceremonial. This position is a symbol of democratic institutions and justice and balance beyond majority rule. Our country is multilingual, multicultural, and multi-religious. The constitution does not grant unlimited power to anyone; its purpose is to limit power." He emphasized that the Vice Presidential election will be one of the most fair and civilized elections in India's recent history.
