Dehradun Cloudbursts Cause Devastation: 10 Dead, Several Missing; PM Modi Assures Aid

Cloudbursts in Dehradun's Sahastradhara and Maldevta areas have caused immense devastation. 10 people have died and several are missing. PM Modi and Amit Shah spoke to CM Dhami and assured all possible help.

Dehradun Cloudburst: A cloudburst incident occurred late Monday night in the Sahastradhara and Maldevta areas of Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Heavy rains and flood-like conditions wreaked havoc in the region. Many shops and houses were washed away by the b currents of water. According to the administration, 10 people have died so far and 8 are reported missing.

Rivers are in spate, and many roads and bridges have been damaged, completely disrupting traffic. Amidst the extensive damage, local administration, police, NDRF, and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations.

PM Modi and Amit Shah Speak with CM Dhami

Following the deteriorating situation in Dehradun and surrounding areas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone. Both leaders received complete details of the incident and assured the state of all possible assistance.

PM Modi stated that the central government stands firmly with Uttarakhand in this difficult time. Amit Shah also assured that there would be no shortage of any kind in relief and rescue efforts.

Chief Minister Dhami Expresses Gratitude

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. He said that with their guidance and support, the state government and administration would be able to carry out relief work more swiftly.

CM Dhami personally conducted an on-site inspection of the rain-affected areas in Dehradun. During this, he gave clear instructions to the officials that no affected family should face any hardship. They should be provided immediate relief materials, safe shelter, food, water, and health facilities.

Administration on Alert Mode, Rescue Operations Underway on War Footing

The Uttarakhand administration has claimed that it is fully on alert mode. District administration, police, NDRF, and SDRF teams had already been deployed in the affected areas. Chief Minister Dhami said that the state government stands with every affected family. He instructed officials to ensure no delay in relief work.

Local People Rescued and Moved to Safer Locations

The biggest challenge after the heavy rains and cloudburst was the safety of local residents. The district administration took immediate action, moving people from the affected areas to safer locations. Many families have been housed in temporary camps where they are being provided with food, water, and medical facilities.

However, access to many rural areas is proving difficult as roads and bridges have been washed away. Despite this, the administration is attempting to deliver relief supplies via helicopters and boats.

Heavy Losses, Structures of Shops and Houses Destroyed

Numerous shops, houses, and vehicles in the Sahastradhara and Maldevta areas were swept away by the b water currents. Local residents report having never witnessed such devastation before. Traders have suffered significant financial losses as all goods stored in the shops have been destroyed. Furthermore, agriculture and animal husbandry in the rural areas have also been severely impacted.
